Renewable Energy
Renewable energy is an important part of the future for Dundee and the broader local economy, encompassing wind, marine and hydro energy, as well as bio, solar and geothermal energy. There are a growing number of businesses in Dundee who are either currently involved or are seeking to engage in the renewable sector.
The renewables sector is growing and developing daily but Dundee has some key advantages which will help develop this sector further in the city. The objective, has been to focus activity to attract a wind turbine manufacturer to the city and with the recent announcement of the Crown Estate's round 3 leasing programme for delivery of up to 25GW of new offshore windfarm sites by 2020.
Dundee has a strong history of successful partnership working and Dundee Renewables aim is to work together to raise the profile of the renewables potential and opportunity that exists in the city. Dundee benefits from a unique strategic position well served by transportation facilities that easily link land based road and rail networks directly to the North Sea and the International and World shipping routes.
The city also has the largest urban wind turbines in Europe operating at the Michelin Tyre Factory and the Dundee Sun City project aims to establish Dundee as Scotland's first solar city.
